Cybersecurity Unit Manager
Classification: Department Leadership
Reports to: Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety & Facilities
Job Purpose: As the Cybersecurity Unit Manager, the incumbent reports to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety & Facilities, responsible for safeguarding the university's digital assets and infrastructure against cyber threats and leading detailed cybersecurity investigations and operations.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing comprehensive cybersecurity strategies and policies to protect the university's digital assets and infrastructure.
- Overseeing the design, implementation, and operation of cybersecurity technologies and systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and antivirus software.
- Conducting regular risk assessments and vulnerability testing to identify potential threats and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Developing and delivering cybersecurity awareness training programs to faculty, staff, and students to promote good cybersecurity practices.
- Maintaining and updating incident response plans and procedures to ensure prompt and effective response to cybersecurity incidents.
- Coordinating with other departments, including IT, legal, and human resources, to ensure a consistent and cohesive approach to cybersecurity across the university.
- Staying up to date with emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and trends and evaluating their potential impact on the university.
- Managing cybersecurity budget, resources, and personnel effectively.
- Producing detailed investigation reports and case files following cybersecurity related incidents and observed threats.
- Reporting regularly to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety & Facilities and other stakeholders on the university's cybersecurity posture and activities.
Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, antivirus software, encryption, and security information and event management (SIEM) tools.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and vulnerability testing and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and respond to cybersecurity incidents effectively.
- Strong communication skills to deliver cybersecurity awareness training and interact with stakeholders across the university.
- Ability to work collaboratively and coordinate with other departments, including IT, legal, and human resources, to ensure a consistent and cohesive approach to cybersecurity.
- Familiarity with incident response plans and procedures to ensure a prompt and effective response to cybersecurity incidents.
- Excellent project management skills to manage cybersecurity initiatives, budgets, and personnel effectively.
- Ability to stay up to date with emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and trends and evaluate their potential impact on the university.
- Experience with managing a cybersecurity team, conducting performance evaluations, and providing feedback and coaching to team members.
Experience and Education :
- Master’s degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT security roles, with a proven track record of success in developing and implementing effective cybersecurity strategies and programs.
- Relevant certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or CompTIA
- Experience with cybersecurity risk management, threat intelligence, and incident response.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in managing and mentoring cybersecurity professionals.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity technologies and tools, such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, antivirus software, SIEM, and penetration testing tools.
